CLEFTROCK
LAKE
(35 airmiles) has only one cabin on the lake. It
is only accessible by floatplane, and as a result
it is very pristine. It is about 2 miles long with
several bays. There are holes of about 80 feet deep.
It is tea-colour, which make it ideal for walleye.
Cleftrock has both inflowing water and outflows
on each end of it. It is a small lake but there
are lots of opportunities for catching Walleye and
Northern Pike. There are a few deep pockets on the
lake and a few good humps. The lake has lots of
islands and great fish structure.

I really do want to THANK YOU and your outfit there for all the memories of the past. We went to Cleftrock Lake this time and had a great time. We have either gone to Bait or Arrow in the past. This is the largest Walleye I have ever seen caught on one of your lakes. Now I know by experience how large they are. We turned this one back. My son Aaron actually did the job. We tried to measure it and think we got it at 28". Didn't weigh it, though it was a thick one too. It would have fed us four dinner had we kept it.

Fishing has been great just about all week. Lots of walleye and Northern, big ones! One Northern was 31 and several at 24-48.

Caught 2 trophy walleyes 29 & 30. Also (2) 23. Largest Northern (2) 29. Cleftrock is a very productive lake. Between the 4 of us we caught several hundred walleyes.

Shane, here are a few pictures of Hans and Sue Borstad in June "slaying" the walleye with string and leaders after my fearless leader forgot the reels in our garage at home. (we found them there today, all neatly wrapped up and ready to go!). We arrived at Cleffrock Lake very excited to do some great fishing. A few minutes after Shane took off, Hans discovered that we "had a very big problem." He was very sorry, but he had left our reels in Minnesota. I came to the rapid conclusion that we may be sightseeing and not fishing after all. However, Hans had other ideas and soon rigged up our rods with the string found on a marker, our leaders and tackle, which he didn't forget. We had a blast catching (and releasing!) walleyes and northern in the shallows. Our rigs had a 4-8 ft. range basically, but fortunately that is where the fish were hanging out. We caught 60 fish in 3 days and had some great meals. Thanks to Northwest flying service for a great trip and some even better memories.
